Tour Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Amman
Arrive at Queen Alia International Airport, where the Zaman Tours team will assist with arrival procedures and
transfer the group to Amman. After check-in, settle into the capital and gather for a welcome dinner introducing
Jordanian hospitality and the journey ahead.
Overnight: Amman
Day 02: Amman and As-Salt: Living Faith and Shared Heritage
Begin in Amman with the Citadel, Roman Theater and Jordan Museum, placing the modern capital within the
wider history of the Roman, Byzantine and Islamic periods. Visit the King Abdullah Mosque as an opportunity
to understand Jordan’s contemporary Muslim heritage and tradition of coexistence. When the program
includes a Sunday, Zaman Tours can coordinate attendance at a Christian church service in Amman; the
denomination and service time are confirmed in advance. Continue with an optional As-Salt heritage walk,
known for its historic urban culture and religious coexistence.
Overnight: Amman
Day 03: Jerash and Tel Mar Elias: Roman Heritage and the Prophet Elijah
Explore Jerash, one of the region’s best-preserved Roman cities, and look beyond the colonnades to its
Christian history. The Cathedral and other churches show how Gerasa developed an active Christian
community during the Byzantine period, with more than twenty churches identified across the site. Continue to
Tel Mar Elias, traditionally associated with the Prophet Elijah; the hilltop preserves two Byzantine churches
with mosaic floors and formed part of an early pilgrimage landscape. Allow time for prayer, scripture reading or
quiet reflection, followed by an optional local lunch or community experience near Ajloun.
Overnight: Amman
Day 04: Umm Qais and Pella: The Northern Christian Landscape
Travel north to Umm Qais, ancient Gadara, with wide views toward the Jordan Valley and the Sea of Galilee.
The guide connects the classical Decapolis city with the region’s biblical and Christian landscape. Continue to
Pella, a long-inhabited site with Roman, Byzantine and early Christian remains, including later church
structures. For faith-based groups, Pella offers a meaningful connection to early Christian history and the
continuity of Christian communities in northern Jordan. Enjoy a local lunch or community-hosted meal.
Overnight: Amman or northern Jordan
Day 05: Madaba, Mount Nebo and Umm ar-Rasas: Mosaics and Sacred Geography
In Madaba, visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, which houses the famous sixth-century mosaic
map of the Holy Land. The map helps travelers place Jerusalem, biblical towns and the Jordan Valley within
the geography of the region and is one of the most important visual records of Byzantine Jordan. At Mount
Nebo, visit the Memorial Church of Moses, built over earlier Byzantine remains, and view its preserved
mosaics and baptistery. The site connects the biblical story of Moses overlooking the Promised Land with the
early Christian monks and pilgrims who built a church and monastery here. Continue to Umm ar-Rasas, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see the Church of St. Stephen’s mosaic floor and evidence of Christian
communities and monastic life before continuing to Petra.
Overnight: Petra
Day 06: Petra: Nabataean Capital and Byzantine Christian Heritage
Spend the day exploring Petra with a licensed local guide, from the Siq and Treasury to the Colonnaded
Street, Royal Tombs and other key monuments. Include the Petra Church Complex, a group of three churches
built over earlier Nabataean structures and tombs. The main Petra Church is a fifth-century tripartite basilica
with preserved mosaic floors showing animals, birds, plants and personifications of the seasons, the ocean,
the earth and wisdom; it offers a direct view of Petra as a flourishing Christian city during the Byzantine period.
Continue with a visit to Esraa House. Petra by Night is optional, subject to the operating schedule.
Overnight: Petra
Day 07: Wadi Rum: Desert Landscapes and Bedouin Hospitality
Travel to Wadi Rum for a 4×4 excursion through the protected desert landscape, with time to appreciate the
sandstone mountains, inscriptions and natural rock formations. Enjoy sunset, a traditional Bedouin dinner and
stargazing beneath the desert sky. This evening balances the faith itinerary with Jordan’s distinctive natural
environment and the warmth of Bedouin hospitality. A short guided walk or sunset tea may be arranged
according to the group’s preference.
Overnight: Wadi Rum camp
Day 08: Mukawir and Bani Hamida: John the Baptist and Community Life
Visit Mukawir, ancient Machaerus, the hilltop fortress associated by the historian Josephus with Herod Antipas
and the imprisonment and execution of John the Baptist. The dramatic setting overlooking the Dead Sea
region gives historical context to the Gospel accounts and the story of John’s witness. Continue to Bani
Hamida Women’s Cooperative for lunch and a community-hosted experience, supporting local women and
craft traditions. Transfer to the Dead Sea for the evening.
Overnight: Dead Sea
Day 09: Bethany Beyond the Jordan and the Dead Sea: The Baptism Site
Visit Bethany Beyond the Jordan, also known as Al-Maghtas, the UNESCO World Heritage site associated
with the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist. Walk through the archaeological landscape of churches,
chapels, monastery remains, hermit caves and baptism pools, showing how Christian pilgrims returned here
from the Byzantine period onward. Allow time at the river for prayer, worship or baptismal renewal according to
the group’s tradition and arrangements. End with Dead Sea relaxation and a farewell dinner.
Overnight: Dead Sea
Day 10: Departure
